Chaos at Howe Community Park Results in Multiple Gunshot Victims in Sacramento's Arden-Arcade

Sacramento County deputies are working a shooting that broke out on the evening of April 18 at Howe Park in Sacramento while Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies were breaking up an unlawful assembly of multiple hundreds of people.

What Led to the Shooting

Sacramento County law enforcement were first called to the Arden-Arcade park just after 6:30 PM on April 18 after receiving reports of individuals possibly carrying concealed weapons. Following that, additional information came in describing a potential altercation breaking out at Howe Park.

A law enforcement helicopter conducted an aerial sweep but was unable to locate the reported altercation. Regardless, deputies found that several hundred individuals had packed into the park in an unauthorized manner.

The Moment Gunfire Erupted

Officers set about removing people from the park by positioning themselves around the crowd and using their vehicle PA systems commanding the assembled crowd to go home. About 15 minutes were given for people to comply.

Just as the crowd began to move that between 20 and 25 rounds cut through the air. The sudden gunfire caused mass panic. Law enforcement swiftly started finding those who had been shot.

Four People Shot

Ultimately, four victims were discovered with shooting injuries. The victims — made up of one woman and three men ranging in age through their in their 20s at the time of the incident — were transported to local Sacramento hospitals. Medical personnel confirmed that two were treated for serious injuries, one had moderate injuries, and one sustained minor gunshot wounds. As of last report, all four were in stable condition.

Sacramento fire crews were called to the scene and helped triage shooting victims prior to hospital transport.

The Investigation

The primary shooting scene appears to have been concentrated along the Cottage Way corridor next to the Home Depot store at the 2200 block of Howe Ave. Law enforcement investigators discovered additional shell casings throughout the Cottage Way area. Ballistic damage were identified in the metal fencing adjacent to the nearby Home Depot. Suspect Vehicle Located

Deputies were traveling to Solano County to transport the detainees for questioning. Video evidence made clear that two individuals had fired weapons.
